City Hall

Overlooking Sugovica, the Renaissance, Italian-style Holy Trinity Square is the site of today's town hall, the former Baroque Grassalkovich Palace.

The old castle was built by Gábor Patanichich Archbishop of Kalocsa, who was the chief bishop of Bács county from 1733 to 1745.

The castle was owned by the Grassalkovich family from 1750 until the end of the last century. In 1862, the town redeemed itself from the dependence of the lords and the building became the property of the town. It was rebuilt in 1896, the year of the millennium, in the historicist, neo-renaissance style, commemorated by a plaque in the lobby. The beautiful red marble fireplace, decorated with the family coat of arms, is on display in the museum. The beautiful stained glass window in the staircase depicts the first couple, Adam and Eve, with the municipal coat of arms. In the summer evenings, the town hall courtyard is the venue for classical and popular music concerts (the Town Hall Evenings series).
