Holy Trinity Statue

In the middle of the square stands one of the oldest late Baroque monuments of Baja, dating back to the 18th century.

The statue stands in the middle of Trinity Square.

One of the oldest late Baroque monuments of Baja, dating back to the 18th century. It was erected in the 1750s to commemorate the great plague epidemic that struck the city. The statue was restored in 1881 (by Lőrinc Dunaiszky Jr.?) and moved to its present location. Above the four evangelists is a statue of Mary, and at the top of the pillar is a statue of the Holy Trinity. Its stepped substructure has a two-part plinth with a stepped back plinth, a divider and a finial. The lower section is octagonal, with four corners flanked by slabs, the slabs bearing statues of the Evangelists. The upper part is also octagonal, with recessed mirrors on the sides between the statues. The statue originally stood in front of the former Grassalkovich Palace (now the town hall) until the then lords of the manor moved it to its present location in 1793.
