Sugovica

The Sugovica, a tributary of the Danube, is a dominant and spectacular feature of Baja's city centre.

The story of the hopeless love between a rich girl and a poor miller's boy is the stuff of legend.

Its sandy beach and willow trees make it a popular free beach in the area. In summer it is the main social scene for young people. Spend summer evenings on the terraces of the riverside restaurants with their Mediterranean atmosphere.

As we approach the Danube, we come to a favourite stretch for boat anglers. At its mouth is the Türr Lookout, named after the town's famous native. István Türr was the initiator of such major water undertakings as the construction of the Corinth Canal, the Panama Canal and the cut through the Sugovica and Franz Canal.
