Overlooking Sugovica, the Renaissance, Italian-style Trinity Square is the site of today's town hall, the former Baroque Grassalkovich Palace. The old palace was built by Archbishop Gábor Patanichichich of Kalocsa, who was the chief bishop of Bács County from 1733 to 1745. The castle was owned by the Grassalkovich family from 1750 until the end of the last century. In 1862, the city redeemed itself from the dependence of the lords and the building became the property of the city. It was rebuilt in 1896, the year of the millennium, in the historicist, neo-renaissance style, commemorated by a plaque in the lobby. The beautiful red marble fireplace, decorated with the family coat of arms, is on display in the museum. The beautiful stained glass window in the staircase depicts the first couple, Adam and Eve, with the municipal coat of arms. ...
One of the most enduring tourist landmarks is the square, paved in the shape of a four-leaf clover, with a beautiful view of Sugovica and Petofi Island opposite on its western side. The main square of Baja has been compared to St Mark's Square in Venice. The listed buildings of great urban significance house a number of hotels, shops, cafés and tourist information offices. The square, with its characteristic basalt blocks, was once the scene of markets and fairs, while today it is the venue for city festivals and programmes. From Trinity Square, a charming courtyard, named in 2010 after Márk Rózsavölgyi, commemorates the birth father of the Csárdás and the Guinness record for the Csárdás, set in 2010 in Baja.
The Bácskai Palace of Culture is located in the main square of Baja, on the Szentháromság Square. The square is also known as "St. Mark's Square of Baja", as it is bordered on three sides by eclectic and classicist buildings and on the fourth by the Sugovica. The Palace of Culture bears almost all of the distinctive architectural features of the city of Baja: its three facades were built in three successive periods between 1813 and 1907. Its main façade overlooks the Trinity Square. It was built by Antal Mészáros, chief magistrate and brother of Lázár Mészáros, the Minister of War of the War of Independence in 1848. In 1913, the first open-air screening was held in the city from the balcony of this building. The director of the screening, György Szilágyi, opened the city's first "stone cinema", Uránia, in the same building in 1913. The ...

Several of his poems became "folk songs". In 1865 he was elected as a member of the Baja parliament, a position he managed to hold for four terms. Among his most important political achievements were winning district rights for his town and founding the predecessor of the Eötvös József College. He proposed the connection of Baja to the railway network. His work contributed greatly to Baja becoming the economic, administrative, intellectual and cultural centre of the region by the end of the 19th century. This square was once the birthplace of István Türr, the town's famous native. A ...
The beautiful pedestrian garden is named after the Viennese silk manufacturer and art collector Frigyes Déri, who came from Baja and returned to his hometown with a wealthy fortune. He has always preserved his Hungarianness. His wealth, typical of his family, was used to support culture. The 23-metre-high monument to the heroes of the First World War stands in the garden, which was designed by Frigyes Déri and created in 1914 from his donations. The first Hungarian revolutionary monument was also erected here in 1956. The garden is still a faithful reflection of the founder's idea: "Home to sunshine, birdsong and children's laughter".
At one of the busiest intersections, at the junction of the main roads 51 and 55, at the edge of the city centre, at a crossroads, on the square named after him, there is a lovely symbol of the people of Baja, the statue of András Jelky, born in Baja - a tailor-turned-world traveller - standing on a globe, with a wandering stick. It was separated from the large island by the István Türr cut, which continued the line of the canal, during the construction of the Baja-Bezdan feeder canal (1870-1875). The island is a popular recreation area in the city, where many events and sporting events are held. He is credited with the construction of the canal linking Sugovica with the Canal of San Francesco, and with the construction of the Corinth Canal and the Panama Canal. On the bank of the Danube, at the mouth of the Sugovica, stands a monument named after him, which offers a beautiful view of the Danube bridge, which also bears his name, as well as the waterway and the Gemencian forest opposite. The German Municipality of Baja, the Public Foundation for the Germans of Baja and the German Cultural Association of Baja, in consultation with the General Cultural Centre of the Germans in Hungary, decided to build an "Ulmer Schachtel", a dereglie in the original size of Baja. The ship will serve a threefold purpose: 1. It will serve as a memorial to our ancestors, most of whom migrated from southern and central German territories to Hungary in the 18th century on such ships and whose skills and diligence contributed significantly to the reconstruction of the country after the Ottoman occupation. The memorial will remind future generations of their origins and will also proclaim our commitment to our narrower homeland, the Bácska.
